Wilderness Needs People!
Engagement by people like you is essential to the process of Wilderness designation and the protection of our remaining wildlands. When crucial decisions are being made, you will be asked to respond to alerts, attend hearings, make phone calls, write letters in support, talk with your neighbors and elected officials and more. Every effort that you make protects Montana’s special wild places and becomes a part of this important conservation work. It takes action to protect wild values. Here is where you will find volunteer opportunities, calls to Act Now, tips on writing letters, upcoming trainings, and contact information for those important to our work. Your voice will make an incredible difference—we promise.

Volunteer Opportunities
Wilderness needs People to contribute their unique talents in enjoyable ways. You can find opportunities to lead, follow, get your feet wet or make a lifetime commitment. You can find an opportunity that matches your desired level and kind of participation at our volunteer page. For example, you can lead a hike, set up a database, start a Chapter, collect photos, teach a class, join the State Council or your local Chapter, contact your congressional representative, bake a treat or gather information on a landscape.

Act Now!
Wilderness needs People to guide our decision makers. Government Agencies regularly request public comment on Forest Plans and other administrative activities. Your experiences, thoughts and feelings about specific landscapes are very important. Write a letter and make an impact. You will find letter writing tools and tips, as well as public meeting schedules on this page.

Write a Letter
Letter writing is a very effective way to communicate with decision makers about what you think is important. It is still the way agency and elected officials get most of their information on where people stand. Make friends and influence people—write a letter today.

Training
Wilderness needs People to be well informed, so Montana Wilderness Association provides trainings ranging from the Wilderness legislation process to winter survival. You can hone skills, learn a valuable new skill, and make new friends at the same time. Check out our training opportunities.
