The Montana Wilderness Association sponsors many events throughout the year to educate the public, promote our Wilderness heritage and outdoor traditions, and enjoy our shared wildlands experiences.
Five local chapters across the state plan and organize many fun and educational events throughout the year. For example, the Eastern Wildlands chapter attracts hundreds of music goers for the “Music for the Wild”, and the Flathead-Kootenai chapter sponsors an International Wildlife Film Festival each year. Several local chapters also sponsor educational programs that highlight various topics each month such as Wilderness and Winter Survival, and Wilderness and Montana Wildlife. Join us also for potlucks, trail maintenance events, Wilderness Walks kickoffs and open houses, all promoting stewardship of our Montana wild places. Our events calendar lists all of the local chapter and statewide events, such as State Council meetings and the annual convention. Please join us in supporting and celebrating wilderness.
Join the Montana Wilderness Association on the trail this year and help us celebrate our 40th decade of Wilderness Walks! This program is among the most enduring wilderness education programs in the country and certainly one of the most popular. Each walk is an opportunity to celebrate the wilds and join in the tradition of wilderness advocacy in Montana. Volunteer walk leaders help protect wilderness, wildlife habitat, and traditional recreational opportunities for everyone. As walk participants, you can learn about new areas, enjoy Montana’s great outdoors, meet new people with similar interests, and hike!
The Montana Wilderness Association’s annual convention has been and continues to be a unique opportunity for members, wilderness advocates, outdoor enthusiasts, and the general public to learn about a wide range of issues related to Montana’s public wilderness lands and our efforts to retain traditional recreational opportunities for everyone. The convention is two days filled with speakers, displays, book and merchandise sales, auctions, field seminars, and entertainment. There is always ample opportunity for re-connecting with wilderness friends and advocates across the state.
