Write A Letter



One of the simplest and most effective tools for a conservation campaign is writing Letters to the Editor. These letters are used to convey the importance of the campaign and your personal feelings about wilderness.


Below are some tips for sending letters for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Partnership:

  • Make sure each letter contains the three pillars of the Partnership in some manner
    • Bringing jobs and economic development to SW Montana by improving timber activities
    • Improving forest health and reducing the risk of devastating wildfires by removing fuels
    • Preserving our backcountry traditions so future generations have quiet places for camping, fishing, hunting and/or hiking
  • Make sure letters have your name, address and phone number for publication
  • Check the newspaper’s requirements, such as letter length
  • If your letter is not published, call the papers and ask them to publish it
  • Here is a sample letter relating to the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Partnership. This letter can be used in response to an article or editorial about the Partnership, or modified to stand alone.
