People Need Wilderness and Wilderness Needs People
Montana is a unique place, full of wildlands, only because so many people are dedicated to preserving the land for future generations. Although wilderness is our passion, we all gain strength, insight and life-long friends from working with others on these important issues.

Our Founders: An interview with Ken and Florence
Montana Wilderness Association was founded in 1958 by Ken and Florence Baldwin and a group of their friends. Ken and Florence both passed away in early 2007, within weeks of each other. Scott Bischke, writer, wilderness advocate, and MWA member, created an audio tribute to Ken and Florence based on interviews he conducted with the couple in 2003. You can listen to Scott's tribute, including inspirational words from Ken and Florence, by clicking the audio player below. Be warned, you may be moved to live and work around your passions, and to love deeply after listening to this piece.
